Employers in New York City should also be aware of the city’s commuter benefits law that will go into effect on January 1, 2016.

It will require employers in the city with 20 or more full-time employees to offer pre-tax transit benefits. Employers have a six-month grace period (until July 1) to comply and will not receive any penalties for violations that take place before then.
